Thread: Accommodation during WC

  1. Accommodation during WC

I´ve been planning to visit SA during the world cup for a long time, SA has been one of my dreamholidays for a long time and I havent went there before just because of that reason. Instead of SA I´ve been travelling alot in Asia, Oceania and Europe.

I´m 25 years old and have been to WC 2006 in Germany and followed Sweden(which is where Im from) and also the Euro 2008 in Austria. This time I applied for tickets for random matches instead of Swedens.

I was quite lucky in the draw and now i have tickets for 4 games (3 in Cape Town 1 in Durban). In both Germany and Austria me and my travelling mates has rented quite central apartments in Dortmund, Berlin, Salzburg etc.

I´ve always find it much better to have an apartment that you share 4 ppl instead of a hotel. Both for economic reasons and that its better than a small hotelroom for 2 weeks. For these apartment the rent has been around 100euro per apartment and night and less than that.

Everytime they talk about SA 2010 in the media in Europe they keep talking about all the problems that will occur, like no public transport not enough hotel rooms etc so i started early to atleast look for apartments in Cape Town. I got a link from this forum to: http://www.capetown-direct.com and I did send some inquries. Sofar all of those ppl wants over 100 000Rand for the apartment over WC most of them over 200 000.

I think that is insane, I just want to know from u all experienced SA travellers or residents. Is that how much it will cost i you would want an ok apartment in some of the more central parts of Cape town during WC???

Only the flight ticket will cost 800euro and I´ve bought tickets for 800 already so paying 500euro per night for an apartment is not an option. I was hoping to find apartments to save my budget a little and i would like to live in the central parts since I dont would like to drive in SA.

All helpful thoughts and ideas would be very much appreciated!

  2. Hi, I'm from South Africa and the normal rates for accommodation is about 50 Euro and high rates 100 to very high 200 Euro, I'm in Pretoria but I see you looking in the areas of Cape Town and Durban. Pls reply and I can give you some links.

  3. accommodation for the World Cup 2010

If you are looking for budget apartments to rent for the World Cup tournaments...there will be some out there. But as with all major events, accommodation prices rise, especially when there is an expected shortfall.

We have accommodation to suit all budgets and as you already have your tickets and know where you want to be, I would advise to book your rooms as soon as you can. The final draw date will take place on 4th December in Cape Town and after that there will be a mad rush to secure accommodation.

If you want any more info or need assistance, PM me...details of our accommodation can be found at www.ownerhome.co.uk. We do not charge booking fees!

  4. accomodation

My advice is stay in one place and travel to the stadiums.
Yes around Cape town the prizes are too high.

Look at the side for nice accomodations, I am sure you wil find one.

    Good luck!

    Its affordable

You will easily find good clean accomodation in cape town for 50 to 100 euros per person during that month. Consider an area (in cape town) like observatory , a student area with great pubs and bars and 10 minutes from the centre of town and 15 from the stadium.

  7. I don't think that there will be enough accommodation for the estimated 450,000 fans that will travel to SA.

Although we have almost 7000 accommodation establishments and almost 100 privately owned apartments and villas (some still awaiting approval onto our site), we expect that the majority, if not all of these will be booked up by the end of December. We are taking on new private accomm on a daily basis, but still not enough to cover the enquiries we are receiving, as most fans will wait until their team/country has qualified before making a firm booking.

England play next week...9th September against Croatia.

  8. thanks for the information friends...

  9. Lots of apartments & guesthouses for good prices

    Hey Henry and others...

I've been finding apartments and cheap accommodation for many many people over the last month for Couchsurfers from www.couchsurfing.org

I run a holiday planning business and we are the only such travel company in SA that works on no mark-ups nor booking fees for tours, flights or accommodation.

People are getting VERY ripped off and the prices some people charging are pretty gross! There is a lot out there and we find exactly what you are looking for. I'd say work on a budget of about $100 to $150 per night per person will get you pretty damn close to the stadiums in nice self catering homes and apartments. I've got many friends who are letting out there places and moving in with family and friends so I can organise very good deals. My company also has the largest database in SA of guesthouses and BnB's. If you drop me a mail of what you are looking for, your dates and your budget I'll send you a bunch of options.

We work on commission from the owners only which is why we can get you the best prices always

I live a stones throw from the stadium myself and am in the heat of it all, if you have any questions or concerns pls drop me a line

    Hi.
I'm a German living and working in SA and I have experienced the WC 2006 in Germany as well.
I have to say what happens here is disgusting. The prices for accommodation and local flights are between 5 to 10 times of what is normally charged in the PEAK SEASON!!! This is completely nuts. Do you South Africans think that all europeans are millionaires? I love SA and the people but what you can always see is that if they believe that they can earn a lot of money out of something they always exagerate. But with the WC 2010 the South Africans went over the top. Never ever there will be 450000 WC tourists with these prices. They want to have 10000 ZAR per day for a 2 bedroom apartment with a minimum stay of 14 days.
I think if it stays like this SA can count itself lucky if there are 100000 tourists coming. And I really really hope that all those greedy flat owners and agencies will be having empty flats over the WC period and earn no money at all. This is so stupid and they don't deserve any better. I can see the Euro signs in their eyes and I really hope they all end up with empty pockets. This is really utter madness and very bad advertising for SA. The people would all have come if the prices were reasonable. No european with an average salary can afford this except if he saved for this since the last WC.
The result of all this will be that the stadiums won't be full and flats and hotels will be empty. At the end SA will lose out a lot of money only because they were too greedy. This all makes me angry and that's why I'm saying that all the people who participate in this RIPPING OFF deserve empty pockets. So far so good. I really hope that FIFA or so steps in to stop this madness. The WC in Germany would have cost a traveller maybe a quarter of what it will cost in SA. And SA is supposed to be a low cost country...
