Thread: Best garden route

  1. Best garden route

    Hi There,
Me and my wife are planning to do the garden route in May. We leave in Johannesburg and we have no idea of how can we start this wonderful trip. How can one best start this trip especially from Johannesburg. We would like to get info on accomodation and expected times to take to reach those, and the central reservation we can use if any for garden eden, kysna (boat trip), Outeniqua stem train etc. We planning to start the trip on the 29th of May till the 5th of June.

  3. Garden Route

A trip to the Garden Route is essential for any nature lover. You and your wife would thoroughly enjoy the breathtaking views alongside the garden route. I would recommend flying up to Cape Town, hire a car and plan your trip beforehand on day by day basis. You can find information on the Garden Route and Scenic drives on cape-town-travel.co.za. Good luck with your trip and let us know afterwards

    garden route or durban

Helo. We're planning a trip to Southafrica in July, and we have a doubt:which is better to do in 3 days? Garden route fron CT to Port Elizabeth by car or Durban, Zululand and Swaziland by car. We arrive to johannesburg, then we take a plane to CT 3 days, and at the end of the trip we stay 3 days at Kruger, so we have 3 days between CT and Kruger and we don't know what to choose between Garden route or Durban. Maybe weather is quite bad in Garden route or not at all?
Thank you for helping me to take a decision.

    Hi there

July is mid-winter in South Africa so it's not the best time to visit Cape Town, although the Kruger National Park, which is usually very hot, will be cooler and a lot more pleasant.

Regarding your question, if you only have 3 days between Cape Town and the Kruger Park, it would make better sense to explore the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth. It's very scenic although it will be quite cold.

The area around Durban would be a lot warmer as it has a sub-tropical climate, but you'd have to fly to Durban and then hire a car. This would obviously then be more expensive and would take time out of your precious 3 days waiting for flights.

I hope this answers your question. Enjoy your stay in SA and travel safely!
