From what I've heard the damage is pretty extensive. I know many homes have literally been washed away. Parts of the N2 were also blocked at some stages.

I very much doubt that the floods and rain will have any effect on the Garden Route during peak season.

I have attached some pictures for you to see of the flood.

I'm not sure exactly what is going on here but I think an opening may have been made allowing the water to drain away.

Default Floods and rain in the Knysna Area

An estimated 632 houses had been damaged and about 160 roofs had been blown off, flood victims where given shelter in community halls had returned home later. Heavy rains and severe flooding during last week caused an estimated R23 million in damages. The damage to two of the region's most popular conservation areas was apparent in the bright sunshine over this weekend. Water supplies have been restored to suburbs east of the town, although on Saturday afternoon the municipality warned residents that the river banks where the pump was situated was unstable and advised people to keep containers of water on hand.

Goukamma Nature and the Marine Reserve were closed to picnickers and overnight visitors after raging waters washed away the large entrance gate and access roads. At their widest point, the waters of the flooded Goukamma River were only a meter from the tarred road to Buffalo Bay.

Wilderness National Park was busy with intensive mopping-up operations after the flooded Touws River turned the Ebb and Flow rest camp into a giant river. Spokesperson Nicky Ravens-Ernstzen said everyone had been moved to safety before peak floodwaters rose higher than 2.9 meters above sea level, although the mouth was open.

In the greater Knysna area, there was about R9m damage to electricity, housing, water and storm water infrastructure, Daniels said.

Electricity has been restored to most of the poor townships north of town and the new Simola golf estate. Three eastern townships remain without power, because of difficult terrain.

There has been a lot of news about flooding in the Eastern Cape, but things are improving and yes, you can visit the Garden Route this summer.

Access to the Garden Route from George is now possible as the N2 has been partially re-opened at Kaaiman's Pass. One lane is open 24 hours and is operating on a stop/go system.

It's perfectly safe for sedans, mini-buses and Sprinter buses. Delays of between 15 and 45 minutes can be expected, but here's a special offer to cheer you up.
