How lucky we are, SAA loaned Mango a new low cost airline R100 million of tax payers money. The result is that the 2 other low cost competitors are reducing their fares..
1Time airline's did the same thing when they launched. Mango CEO Nico Bezuidenhout said on Tuesday the airline's launch had seen an "unprecedented wave of enthusiasm". I wonder why? By mid-morning on Tuesday, 11 000 confirmed reservations had been made at Mango's call-centre. Comair, which runs Kulula, said the airline would undercut its prices for all of its 8 routes, with the lowest fare at R168. This was, however, for a limited number of seats. Mango is offering one-way tickets from Johannesburg to Cape Town and Durban for R169. 1Time's offering for the same ticket ranged between R165 and R549 in January. December prices were R999. According to its website, Kulula's January prices ranged between R168 and R248. December one-way tickets cost between R859 and R1 399. Since December 2005, the competition commission had fined SAA twice, first R60m, then R45m, for fixing ticket prices and abusing its dominant position in the market. I wonder what the competition commission is going to say about this. At least tax payers will benefit from these cheap flights. Mango said its prices for Johannesburg-Cape Town flights for next year were R249 and would stay at this level. WE LOVE MANGO |

Mango sold 80 000 tickets the first week, i wonder why
but don't expect to get a one way ticket in Dec for less than R1000. The good news gets better, 1 time and kalula both decided also to give 1way tickets away at R187 and R185. |

Mango sold 150 000 tickets by the time the first flight took off this week. You can still get tickets at about R249 per person one way to Durban and JHB.

perhaps doing a little research would reveal that they are both the same companies. So instead of supporting companies like SAA who have the government funding them, support 1 time and Kulula. they're privately owned and are here to improve things. where as Mango are merely placed in the market to upset our two low cost airlines. If you did a little more research, youd find out that on ALL SAA flights, their snacks and drinks are all sponsored. meaning that every item sold is 100% profit. so perhaps you'll think twice about supporting a company that has screwed south africa over for years.

There are many things that aren't right in this world but that wont change.
If I can take the moral highground and fly to Durban for R1000 or say I don't really care and fly for R169 I have to say I would take the latter option. Maybe that's just me ![]() |

Who cares. We all know that SAA has been loosing money for years, that will not change soon. As a tax payer at least i can finally get some small benefits in the form of mango's cheap airline tickets. I can take my entire family from Cape Town to Durban for less than R1000. Who the hell cares about anything except price.
This is a same as getting money back from SARS. Thanks Mango/SAA |
