Default High waves damage La lucia Homes

The Indian Ocean is swallowing multi-million-rand seafront homes on Natal's North Coast as unusually high waves batter parts of the shoreline.

Large chunks of 6 luxury homes in La Lucia have fallen into the sea.

One of them belongs to TV preacher Ray McCauley, whose entire garden was washed away.

Several concrete walls, garden gates and a giant tree have been swept away by huge waves.

Some of the houses have large swimming-pools, which are slowly collapsing into the sea.

ons home owner said "I saw the ground just before my garden gate slowly disappear. I took in my garden furniture, as it looked like it was going to be washed into the ocean."

"When I got up the next day, my garden gate and fence were gone."

The deputy head of Coastal, Stormwater and Catchment Management, Randeer Kasserchun, said property that owners had been given the go-ahead to carry out emergency protection works.

The erosion by abnormal sea conditions is caused by a combination of the strong south- easterly winds and spring tide.
