Default Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens Plant Sale

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens Plant Sale starts this weekend. This is the indigenous gardening event of the year. Kirstenbosch Botanical Society's plant sale will be held this weekend at the Stone Cottages, opposite the entrance to the Kirstenbosch Gardens.

This annual fund-raising event is organized by the Botanical Society of South Africa and is a showcase for South Africa's indigenous flora. Proceeds are used to develop the gardens at Kirstenbosch.

This year, the garden fair focuses on the threatened flora of South Africa. The Cape Florel Kingdom has approximately 9 000 species.

A range of threatened plants, many of which are easy to grow, will be on display and for sale at the fair. A highlight will be the availability of all 5 forms of the majestic Erica verticillata, which is extinct in the wild.

The sale runs today and tomorrow from 9am to 4pm. The Stone Cottages are at the corner of Rhodes and Kirstenbosch drives. The cost: R5, children under 12 free. Tel: 021 671 5468.
