Own land Rover / Roof Tent....???

Hi there,
Currently in SA on a six month tour to view the amazing nature. I am planning to drive through the Kruger National Park and spend about two weeks in doing so. I have a Land Rover which I bought as six months car rental would have been astronomical It is a sound vehicle and as such I would like to use it as a mobile base. I will be putting a roof tent on it and prepping it for the journey. My question is this. Given the campsites in the Park is it viable to plan on arriving at said camp sites and requesting the space for the vehicle as we, my girlfriend and I, plan to sleep in the roof tent.

Would this be a possible solution?

How did your trip go? I'm about to embark on something similar, setting off in April 2009. Any advice for an independent traveller with a 4x4 & goal of seeing as much wildlife as possible?
