Heritage Marathon 2006
Motorists should take care as there will be road closures throughout the city at various times on Sunday to accommodate the runners. Darling Street, from Plein Street to Buitenkant Street, and Buitenkant Street from the Castle entrance to Darling Street, will be closed for the start from 5.45am to 6.10am and for the 10km event from 7.15am to 8.15am. Table Bay Boulevard/N1 (the elevated freeway) - north-bound along the Eastern Boulevard from exactly where the N1 freeway forks, left towards the N1 and right towards Eastern Boulevard, to the Searle Street on-ramp, Woodstock - will be closed from 6am to 7.45am. Hertzog Boulevard from below the on-ramp to Eastern Boulevard for east-bound traffic will be closed from 6am to 7.45am. Strand Street, from below the on-ramp to Eastern Boulevard, will be closed for east-bound traffic from 6am to 7.45am. Settlers Way/N2, from the start of the off-ramp to Mowbray/Main Road, will be closed for city-bound traffic from 7.45am to 11.30am. The alternative route for these roads is De Waal Drive/N2. The Searle Street off-ramp off Eastern Boulevard will be closed for city-bound traffic from 8am to 1.45pm. The alternative route is the Strand Street off-ramp. |

The Automobile Association says more road accidents can be attributed to the condition of South Africa's roads than in the past. While previously this was accepted at about 5% it was now considered that about 10% to 15% of accidents were caused by poor road conditions.
