Thumbs up Easily

Hey,

I've done that exact route before and it can easily be done in 1 days driving.

You can use the distance calculator below
south african travel distances

To see that it's only 395km. Even with a few stops this can be done in 5 hours quite comfortably. I would recommend leaving at a time which ensures that no driving will be done in the dark.

Mossel Bay is a great place, what takes you to that side of the world?

When are you planning on taking the trip along the garden route? The reason I'm asking is because we have experienced serious flooding along the garden route over the last week. The NSRI, and other rescue teams had their hands full rescuing dozens of stranded people, the team rescued 12 men and woman stranded aboard the back of a truck in the middle of a river. Another team, rescuing a woman near Plettenberg Bay was beset by drowning snakes. Her house was on the Bitou River, they sent a team of four guys with a jet ski and a floating stretcher. The biggest threat came from scores or drowning snakes trying to flee. They were trying to crawl up the guys legs onto the stretcher to climb out the water. The rescuers had to evade the snakes in the deep pitch dark water.

As you can see, travel in the next week or so is out of the question.

I think mid November is the best time to take your vacation. The weather will be great and you will miss the busiest time of the year which starts early December.

Your itinerary looks perfect - maybe you could spend a little more time around the Knysna area, there are some fantastic spots around there. You'll definitely want to check out Plettenberg Bay, George and Wilderniss.

Remember to check out the Cango Caves when you are in Oudsthoorn and take a ride on the Outeniqua Steam Train to have a relaxed and interesting tour of the area in George.

My favourite aspect of the Garden Route is the warm ocean. All the places have great beaches - the sea can be quite rough in the area sometimes so be careful when swimming.
