Anyway you DON'T want to walk around at night, there is nothing open, nobody on the streets. My boyfriend had traveld two years through South Africa and he also was amazed as we took a taxi when we arrived by bus to PE, as we were driving to our central backpackers all the streets were empty, noone at all, and the taxi driver said pointing at the few people we saw that they were on drugs. During the day i felt reasonnably safe, but at night i wouldn't have gone out.

Ah! Port Elizabeth my home town,The safety of Port Elizabeth is less than in Jo,Burg it is more relaxed and also less stressful,The centre of town maybe a bit too much ,but otherwise on the outskirts of town about 5 minutes drive there is absolutely nothing to worry about,as a tourist you need to although look after your own belongings as you would anywhere else in the world.
Places in and around Port Elizabeth can be viewed on my Port Elizabeth pages and the closest you probably would be to Algoa Park would be to stay in Newton Park or Greenacres in Port Elizabeth, there is standard transport available as well if the need be. Getting around Port Elizabeth is about 30 minutes maximum you would need to travel say from the airport which is in Walmer to Algoa Park which is about 20 kilometres away. Yes if you do have time ,do visit places of interest around PE such as the Addo Elephant National Park as well as Shamwari game reserve. Enjoy your stay. |
