I have been to both sides, Victoria Falls Elephant Hills Hotel on the Zimbabwe side and I have stayed at the Royal Livingstone Hotel in Livingstone on the
Zambian side. Both experiences were awesome. The Royal Livingstone Hotel is the best hotel in the Vic Falls region, I had a massage in a gazebo next to the Zambezi river while Elephants and Hippos cruised by only meters away. Tourist numbers on the Zimbabwe side began to decline in early 2000 as civil unrest brewed surrounding the continuing rule of Robert Mugabe. 2006 hotel occupancy on the Zimbabwean side hovered at around 30%, while on the Zambian side, Livingstone occupancy was reaching full capacity. The rapid development has prompted the UN to consider revoking the Falls' status as a World Heritage Site.
If you are going down the Zambezi river, its best to start from Zambia as you will get 2 extra rapids to ride. Chobe game reserve is a ideal day trip safari from Vic Falls.
